Japanese astronaut Kanai in rehabilitation in Houston

国際宇宙ステーション滞在を終え地球に帰還した宇宙飛行士の金井宣茂さん（41）が6月4日、地球の重力に体を慣らすリハビリに取り組むため、米航空宇宙局（NASA）の施設がある米ヒューストンに到着した。宇宙航空研究開発機構（JAXA）によると、順調なら 6月中旬に日本に帰国する。

ロシアのソユーズ宇宙船で6月3日に着陸したカザフスタンから向かっていた。

金井さんはステーションに昨年12月から 5カ月半滞在。宇宙で長期間、無重力の状態で過ごすと、筋力が低下し、バランス感覚も狂うため、リハビリをして回復させる。(KYODO)

Translation

Astronaut Norishige Kanai, 41, has returned to Earth after finishing his stay on the International Space Station (ISS).

To reaccustom his body to Earth’s gravity, Kanai went to a NASA rehabilitation center in Houston on June 4. According to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), if all goes well, Kanai will return to Japan around mid-June.

Kanai made his way to Houston after the Russian Soyuz spacecraft touched down in Kazakhstan on June 3.

Kanai was onboard the ISS for 5? months from December of last year. He is in rehabilitation because an extended period of time in space in a weightless state can cause muscle deterioration and a loss of balance.
