U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has chosen businessman George Glass to be ambassador to Japan as he continues to stack his administration with officials who have espoused hawkish views toward China.
¡°I am pleased to announce George Edward Glass as our next United States Ambassador to Japan,¡± Trump wrote on his Truth Social account. ¡°As a former President of an Investment Bank, George will bring his business acumen to the Ambassador¡¯s position.¡±
Glass, who served as ambassador to Portugal from 2017 to 2021 during Trump¡¯s first administration, criticized China¡¯s growing involvement in Portugal¡¯s strategic infrastructure, singling out telecoms giant Huawei Technologies¡¯ bid to develop the European country¡¯s communications networks.
