Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sought to win back public support in his annual address on Monday, pledging an anti-corruption crackdown that will not spare even a close relative, and proposing tax relief for the middle class.
The nation¡¯s anti-graft watchdog is close to filing cases against his cousin, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Marcos said in his State of the Nation Address to Congress.
¡°Painful as it may be for me, but we must do what is right,¡± Marcos said Monday. ¡°I am not the president of my family. I am not the president of my friends. I am the president of the Philippines.¡±
