Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi struck a conservative tone at Â鶹´«Ã½ annual memorial for its war dead, highlighting the country¡¯s role as a dependable Indo-Pacific partner while omitting the word ¡°remorse¡± from her speech, which was revived by her predecessor a year earlier.
In her first appearance as prime minister at the National Memorial Service for the War Dead on Saturday, Takaichi said Japan had consistently pursued peace in the postwar period and worked to contribute to global prosperity.
¡°Japan can play an important role in resolving various issues confronting nations,¡± she said, adding that her country could become ¡°a shining beacon in the Indo-Pacific that others could rely on.¡±
