The Google artificial intelligence program AlphaGo defeated South Korean go grandmaster Lee Se-dol on March 15 in a historic tournament held in Seoul, triumphing by four matches to one. AlphaGo, developed by Google’s London-based artificial intelligence subsidiary DeepMind, won the tournament prize money of $1 million. After losing the first three matches, the 33-year-old grandmaster won his only victory on March 13 in the the best-of-five series between man and machine.
